CSS Won't run: No or incomplete Java Support

CSS Won't run: No or incomplete Java Support

If CSS doesn't run at all, the likely reason is missing Java support. This includes the case where CSS used to run, but over night suddenly fails to start up because an ORNL IT software update has removed it. There should be an error message similar to this:

You need
  • Java 7, also known as Java 1.7.
  • Oracle Java, not OpenJava, GNU Java, ...
  • The JDK is preferred over the JRE

Blogger: How to Style Labels in Blogger

How to Style Labels in Blogger

By default, Blogger allows you to arrange your content into categorize with the help of labels. It is always considered as a handy practice to label your posts to a specific category so that users can easily find relevant content not by searching your whole blog but by looking into a specific label or a category.  This makes your site more user friendly, but also useful for search engines too. You can display labels in the sidebar or anywhere in your site which are list or cloud style. In this article, we will show you how to style labels in blogger.

Before you get started with this tutorial, we would recommend you to go through how to add labels in your posts so that you can understand with a lot more authority.

Display All Labels with Post counts in Blogger:

Some popular sites tend to display all labels on their error or not found pages to provide users a few set of options that they can use to find a relevant topic. However, some sites display them in either sidebar or footer so here’s how you can display all labels with post counts in a form of label cloud:

Go to Blogger >> Add a gadget >> Labels >> (Select label cloud in types) and save the widget. Now it depends on you where you would like to place it either in the sidebar or footer.

Now you might see a label cloud on your site after following the above instruction but it may not be as pretty or attractive as you might be looking for so add the following CSS coding in your template just above the skin tag.

/*--- MBL Custom Label Cloud With CSS3 --- */
.Label a {
    padding-left: 20px;
    background: #000;
    padding: 0 20px;
    color: #fff!important;
    border-radius: 100px;
    -moz-border-radius: 100px;
    height: 32px;
    line-height: 32px;
    text-transform: uppercase;
    text-decoration: none;
    border: none !important;
    -webkit-transition: all .3s ease-in-out !important;
    t: 30pxt: 30px;
    float: left;
    margin-left: 5px;
    margin-top: 5px;
    font-size: 14px;
}

.Label a:hover {
    color: #000 !important;
    background: #ff0;
}

You can always customize the CSS according to your likings, here’s a demo of what you will see after applying the above code in your template.

Styling Labels in your Posts Meta Information:

The majority of Blogger templates comes with a nicely style post information meta data that displays labels that you have tagged your post with in post editor. However, some old templates don’t have this functionality or if they do they are not attractive anyway, or you may like to style them differently.

The very first thing you need to do is to take care of which CSS Class or ID that is been used by your blogger template to display labels. You can use Google Chrome’s inspect element to figure that out.  Right click on the label and select “Inspect elements” this will open up a window at the bottom of your screen just as it is shown in the screenshot below:
In the above screenshot, you can see the theme is using tags for CSS class. Now you can use the following CSS code to style it according to your desire needs and requirements. Note: if you are using any other class or ID then just edit the CSS accordingly.

.meta_categories {
    float: left;
    margin-bottom: 10px;
    text-transform: uppercase;
    width: 100%;
    font-size: 14px;
}
.meta_categories a {
    text-decoration: none;
}

This is the end result of what you will see on your site.  However, you can customize it according to your likings.

We hope this beginner’s guide to style labels in blogger would have helped you in not only customizing your template but also some blogger template developers who keep on asking that how to display labels in posts in blogger.

Visual Studio:Debugging Tips and Tricks

Debugging Tips and Tricks

unfortunately bugs are a part of software development, and despite our best efforts to write software correctly from the start we spend a lot of time in the debugger. While bugs are an unfortunate fact of life, finding them doesn’t have to be as painful as it often is. For you problem-solvers out there, the Visual Studio 2015 debugger contains a rich set of features that can really increase your productivity…assuming you know they exist, and how to use them! To help with you learn more about our debugging tools, I recently gave three talks on “Debugging Tips and Tricks for .NET developers”, at Microsoft’s Build Conference (60 minutes), at Microsoft’s Ignite Conference (75 minutes), and most recently on Visual Studio Toolbox (38 minutes). So check them out!
For the folks who like the printed word more than talking heads, I’ll also cover some of the highlights I hit on in the talks. These tips include both new features in Visual Studio 2015 as well as useful functionality from previous versions of Visual Studio.
Note: If you are interested in watching one of the talks, all three talks use the same demos and cover similar content, where the shorter talks are simply more selective about which features they show.

Start Debugging

While most debugging sessions begin with “Start Debugging”, there are other options as well:
  • Need to start debugging at the entry point of the application? Use “Step Over” (F10) or “Step Into” (F11) when in design mode and it will take you to the entry point of the application (assuming Just My Code is enabled) eliminating the need to find the line of code in the correct source file to place the breakpoint on.
  • No code edits to make at design time? Restart debugging allows you to quickly restart your application with debugging enabled. This eliminates the need to click “Stop Debugging”, then wait for the IDE to return to design mode, and THEN click “Start Debugging” again.
  • Need to start multiple projects in your solution? Configure your solution for multiple startup projects, to launch multiple projects with (and/or without) debugging. This is particularly useful when debugging a solution that contains applications that depend on each other at run time (e.g. a client and server).

Execution Control

Need to get the debugger to the desired location in source code? Here are a few tips that can make this faster.

Data Inspection

Once you get the debugger to the desired location you’re probably going to inspect your application’s data. Here is a look at a few options:

Productivity Improvements

In the demos I also showed the improvements in Visual Studio 2015 that were some of your top requests to help improve productivity using the debugger:

The above content was a quick sample of what was covered in the talks. If this piques your interest I would recommend watching one of the talks listed above (here are the links again for convenience--Visual Studio Toolbox, Build, Ignite—most detailed). Additionally, you can follow the diagnostics team including the debugger on our team blog.
